FEBRUARY 1- MARCH 7
OPENING: FEBRUARY 1, 6-9PM
In a world increasingly marked by division, injustice, inequities, and pain, the question arises: how do we embrace the (BE)LOVED? This exhibition serves as both an exploration and a meditation on this profound question, centering on the lived experiences of artists of African heritage. Through their creative expressions, the five artists in this exhibition — Alanna Airitam, Granville Carroll, Lizz Denneau, Amber Doe, and bianca goyette — consider Black love and connection.
The exhibition challenges conventional understandings of love and belonging. The artists use an array of diverse mediums — painting, sculpture, photography, textiles — to delve into the multifaceted meanings of (BE)LOVED. It is both an abstract idea and a dynamic and multifaceted force found in the tender exchanges between individuals, in the enduring resilience of communities, in the landscapes of memory, and in the spaces we claim as home.
